Stop and listen. The world we live in would probably seem like a cold and lonely place to our ancestors. The sense of belonging to a community has almost disappeared. We don’t live with our parents and grandparents in the same house anymore. We have our own apartments, privacy and closed doors. But thats just the way it is, no point in crying over the spilled milk. We made our bed, so we better learn how to sleep in it.
In this modern society our personal love relationships become even more valuable. Intimacy is the glue in these relationships, and if we don’t take care of it, the love will find it hard to survive. In this weeks news song “Stop and Listen,” a couple are struggling with it. When things get hard in the home front, it is so easy to make yourself busy socialising with your work colleagues or some other friends outside your relationship. But even the best of relationships take work, and if you are not willing to put the work in, soon enough your partner might just be calling it a day.
Taking someone you love as granted is one of the biggest mistakes I see around me. Time is a valuable commodity. I am not saying that you should spend every waking moment with your partner, no that would not be healthy. But if the only thing you have in common is the address where your mail gets delivered to, then something is not right.
So make a conscious effort. Spend regular time with your partner doing things you both enjoy doing, and yes this might require a little bit of a compromise from both of you. And if either of you feel like you are “lacking in the intimacy department,” for the love of all that is good in this world, get on the case of fixing it right now! Every day you just brush it a side you are drifting further and further apart.
I know this is a quite universal subject, so if the song hits home, please share it. The power in the song is that it can make someone going through something like this feel like they re not alone, but only if you share it 😉 Go grab your copy of the song from my Bandcamp page HERE and let me know what you think of it. Thank you for listening and don’t forget to love one another 🙂
