So you think you are an artist? You write songs? Great. Now let me set some ground rules. As an artist you are a window, that reflects the world and whats going on in it. It is your job to help people make sense of it all. It is your job, as the great Amanda Palmer puts it “to connect the dots.” This comes with responsibility.
By being an artist, I assume you are curious. You look at the world and try to make sense of it. You feel like you don’t fit the norm, you feel like there is more to life, and you desperately want to be heard and seen. These are the qualities that make you an artist.
So if you jump to a small-minded conclusion, without thinking of the bigger picture, you are neglecting your artistic responsibility. Especially in the times we are living, world need artists to shine light on the bigger picture, not some narrow-minded little view. We need to show people there is hope. We need to speak the words, others are scared to say. We need to show how something as simple as music can build bridges. If you want to be a true artist, take your artistic responsibility seriously.
