This weeks song “Medicine Man” digs deep 😉 I am not here to generalise, so lets just make it clear that this song is written from a mans perspective. It is a song about a man who from the outside seems to have good thing going, but at every given chance he tries to escape the reality by drinking himself senseless, getting into fights and disappearing. I think many of us have been there, but if not at least we know some one who has.
I have had my own struggles in the past, which I feel (and hope) I have left in the past. So it got me thinking where does it all come from? I do believe we have a void in our society. I believe the old sense of community is lacking. Many of us search this from sports, being in a band, clubs, or even gangs. There are still some indigenes tribes who have that sense of community. They feel like they are an integral part of something and their contribution is important. I also have heard about soldiers after finishing their service feeling a deep sense of not belonging. For year they were part of a tribe, but when they return to the “real world” they feel left out.
I believe that lack of community and lack of feeling that we belong can trigger those demons within us. None of this is an excuse for a bad behaviour, or letting your family down. But maybe it can give us a better understanding of what is behind of all this behaviour.
Well thats my theory anyway 😉 You can grab a copy of this weeks song “Medicine Man” from my Bandcamp page HERE. Let me know what you think of the song and feel free to share it with the world 🙂
