The past year has been a real self discovery learning curve for me. I highly recommend something similar as my 52 song challenge to anyone. Just pick something you like doing and commit to doing it publicly every week for a full year. You will be amazed what you learn about your self, what it might do to your career and life and also how many new friends you make.
What I realised was the more I pushed my self out of my comfort zone, the more learned and the more things started to resonate with the world around me. It was like the ripple effect. Now I know I need to do this more. Too often me make excuses not to step out of our comfort zone and end up, well… no where. And that’s the point, if you want to change something in your life whether it’s something to do with your career or personal life, you need to be brave and step out of your comfort zone.
I’ll give you an example. I wrote a song late last year called “1994” You can hear the song and read the blog post HERE. I was very hesitant to release the song as it was so personal. It felt like showing the world your weakness. When I finally decided to go ahead with it, I wrote the blog post to go with it four times. The last one that I ended up posting, was me just finally leaving that comfort zone and spilling my feelings on the page and hit the publish button before I would change my mind.
The reaction was great. People resonated with the story and once again I got loads of personal Emails and messages sharing their story. The song got some amazing feedback. And no one picked up a stick and started to poke me in my wounds 😉
So is there something you always wanted to do but never got around to it? Would it be the fear of stepping out of your comfort zone holding you back? What’s the worst that can happen if you give it a go?
