Facebook ads are not only for the big business, but also musicians can use them. I know many musicians would be scared to try as they are scared to spend too much money. But the beauty of these ads is that you can start with just $1. You can use them to get more likes for your bands Facebook page, or you can use them to reach more people with your posts. You can even use them to advertise your website. There are few ins and outs with them you will need to learn, and if you are interested to learn more about it, drop me a line and I might write another post on the subject.
But right now, I want to share with you some results of a test I ran. The May 2014 Facebook algorithm change has been running a small riot on the net and I still haven’t found reliable info on how it effected the advertising. So I decided to try a quick test between Facebook promoted post ad and Twitter promoted tweet ad. This is a small test, I only spent $10 on both ads. The twitter ads geographical targeting is still quite limited, so I decided to concentrate the ads to United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. I was only targeting English speakers and the rest of the targeting was related to music genres, both matching on both ads. I set both ads for post engagement. In Facebook I could have optimised the ads for clicks to my website, but for the purpose of this test I wanted to have both ads matching.
So here are the results. On Twitter I got 3110 Impressions and 23 clicks to my website. On Facebook my post reach was whopping 16110, which at the end of the day means nothing, but also Facebook came as a winner on the clicks to my website, which was 60. So what does this information tell me? First of all, Facebook is still the winner by far here as an advertising platform and I would expect this to be the case for some time to come. But at the same time, even though I think the Twitter ad is still bit on an expensive side, the click percentage to my website from the reach is very impressive compared to Facebook. This has been actually my over all experience with Twitter. If Twitter in the future can try to compete with Facebook on the price, I could see my self using lot more Twitter ads, but for now my paid reach comes mainly from Facebook and organic goodness from Twitter.
